AI Agent and Automation Pricing Benchmark 2026: 44 Published Prices Compared

Short answer: across 44 price pages published by 39 companies in 2026, the median agency quote is about $9,000–$30,000 for a simple chatbot, $20,000–$70,000 for a single-workflow AI agent, $15,000–$42,500 for a voice agent and $40,000–$85,000 for a computer vision system. Running costs add 15–22.5% of the build price a year, and AI developer rates in Pakistan and India sit at roughly 28–31% of US rates. The tables below show every figure with its source.

We collected these numbers on 26 October 2026 from agencies' public price guides, platform pricing pages and freelance marketplaces, exactly as published. You are welcome to cite them; see "How to cite this benchmark" at the end.

The benchmark at a glance

Medians of the low and high ends of each published agency range, in US dollars:

Project typeMedian agency rangePages usedNotes
Simple or FAQ chatbot$9,000–$30,0006Freelance gigs start at $50–$200, but for template builds
Single-workflow AI agent$20,000–$70,0005Lowest published MVP range: $12,000–$22,000
RAG knowledge assistant$28,000–$52,0005Two clear price groups (see below)
Voice AI agent (custom)$15,000–$42,5004Platform-configured agents from $1,000–$15,000
Computer vision system$40,000–$85,0004Top published ranges exceed $250,000
Workflow automation (one workflow)$2,000–$8,0002UK agencies quote £2,500–£8,000 for one n8n workflow

For context, Clutch's 2026 pricing page, based on client reviews, puts the typical AI project at $10,000–$49,999, with an average of about $120,600.

Chatbot prices

Simple chatbots answer questions from fixed content and hand over to a person. Agency ranges run from $4,000 to $40,000 at the top end:

  • Monocubed (Canada/US): $5,000–$30,000 for a simple or rule-based chatbot.
  • CMARIX (India): $8,000–$25,000 for a basic FAQ chatbot.
  • Yudiz (India): $4,000–$25,000 for chatbots and conversational AI.
  • Cubix: $10,000–$30,000 for a basic rule-based chatbot.
  • Cleveroad (Estonia): $20,000–$35,000+ for a reactive FAQ agent.
  • GroovyWeb: $15,000–$40,000 for a simple AI-first chatbot.
  • UK agencies: £5,000–£15,000 for a basic FAQ bot (CloudSwitched), or from £1,500 on an existing platform (Softomate).

Freelance marketplaces are far cheaper: Fiverr lists basic chatbots at $50–$200 and Upwork at $500–$1,000 on third-party software. These are usually template builds on no-code tools, so the scope is not comparable with an agency build.

AI agent prices

An AI agent reads a request, decides what to do and acts in your systems. Published 2026 ranges for a first, single-workflow agent:

SourceRegionPublished range
GroovyWeb, single-tool agent MVPIndia, Australia, Germany$12,000–$22,000
Biz4Group, task-oriented agentUSA$20,000–$35,000
SoftTeco, simple agentPoland, Lithuania, Bulgaria$20,000–$80,000
Yudiz, basic agentIndia$30,000–$80,000
Cleveroad, contextual single-workflow agentEstonia$40,000–$70,000+
CloudSwitched, task agentUK£35,000–£80,000

The spread inside each range comes mostly from the number of systems the agent connects to and how much it may do without a person's approval. Our AI agent development cost guide explains those drivers.

RAG knowledge assistant prices

RAG prices split into two groups. India-linked agencies publish $8,000–$25,000 for a basic RAG chatbot (SoluLab, ScalaCode) and $28,000–$52,000 for a RAG agent (GroovyWeb). A Canada/US agency (Monocubed) and an agency with Eastern European offices (SoftTeco) publish $75,000–$300,000 and $100,000–$300,000. The gap reflects both rates and scope: the higher ranges usually include access control across large document sets and enterprise integrations.

Voice AI agent prices

  • GroovyWeb: $3,000–$12,000 for an SMB single-purpose voice agent.
  • RaftLabs: $15,000–$35,000 to replace a basic IVR phone menu.
  • OnGraph: $15,000–$50,000 for a mid-level voice agent.
  • Softcery: $25,000–$60,000 for a custom inbound booking agent, or $1,000–$15,000 configured on an existing platform.

Running costs are per minute. Platform fees alone are $0.05 (Vapi), $0.055 (Retell infrastructure) and $0.08 (ElevenLabs Agents) a minute, before the AI model and phone line. All-in rates run $0.07–$0.31 a minute on Retell and $0.11–$0.14 on Bland. See AI voice agents for call centres for what that means at real call volumes.

Workflow automation prices

Single automations are the cheapest entry point. Published prices:

  • From $300 for a single n8n workflow on Contra (Pakistan-based freelancer).
  • From $2,000 for an n8n build (Hackceleration).
  • $2,000–$8,000 for a single AI workflow (GroovyWeb).
  • £2,500–£8,000 for one scoped n8n workflow from UK agencies (Goodspeed's market survey).
  • £8,000–£30,000 for a single-process automation (CloudSwitched, UK).

Machine learning and computer vision prices

Computer vision ranges are the widest: $8,000–$60,000 (Yudiz, India), $30,000–$70,000 for an MVP (Biz4Group, USA), $50,000–$100,000 for a single-line manufacturing pilot (SmartDev) and $50,000–$250,000+ (Cubix). A basic predictive ML model costs £15,000–£40,000 from a UK agency (CloudSwitched).

Hourly rates for AI developers by region

RegionMedian of published ranges (USD/hour)RowsMidpoint vs US
United States$78–$1656100%
Western Europe$100–$1753about 113%
Eastern Europe$50–$958about 60%
Latin America$40–$907about 54%
India$25–$506about 31%
Pakistan$22–$472about 28%

In the UK, contract machine learning engineers in England earned a median of £575 a day over the six months to 25 October 2026 (IT Jobs Watch). Vetted freelance marketplaces narrow the gap between regions: Lemon.io lists US machine learning engineers at $55–$72 an hour against $50–$51 in Ukraine.

Running costs after launch

  • Maintenance: seven agencies publish 10–25% of the build price a year; the median band is 15–22.5% (midpoint about 19%). Regulated voice work runs higher, 30–60% (Softcery).
  • Chat AI priced per resolution: Intercom Fin from $0.99 per outcome, Gorgias $0.90–$1.00 per resolved interaction, Zendesk $1.50–$2.00 per automated resolution and Salesforce Agentforce $2.00 per conversation.
  • Care plans: UK agencies publish £99–£399 a month for chatbot and RAG care, and £1,500–£3,500 a month for an n8n maintenance retainer.

How RixDigi's prices compare

Our own published starting prices sit below the agency medians because we are a small offshore team. Chatbots start at $2,500–$6,000 and workflow automation at $1,000–$3,000. RAG assistants and voice agents start at $4,000–$10,000, AI agents at $5,000–$12,000 and custom machine learning at $8,000–$20,000. Support costs 15–25% of the build price a year. Method

  • 44 public pages from 39 companies, opened on 26 October 2026. Figures copied exactly as published; no currency conversion.
  • Medians use agency rows quoted in US dollars only. Freelance marketplace prices are reported separately because the scope differs.
  • Several pages contradict themselves or mix tiers, so treat each figure as that company's claim, not a market fact.
  • We will refresh the benchmark every six months.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to build an AI agent in 2026?

The median published agency range for a first single-workflow agent is $20,000–$70,000. Offshore teams publish lower ranges, such as $12,000–$22,000 for an MVP (GroovyWeb) or from $5,000 (RixDigi).

Why do AI development prices vary so much?

Mostly because of hourly rates, which differ about three to four times between the US and South Asia. Scope matters too: the number of integrations, the amount of data and the level of testing and compliance.

What does an AI chatbot cost per month to run?

Platform pricing runs from about $0.65 to $2.00 per conversation or resolution, plus maintenance of roughly 15–22.5% of the build price a year for custom builds.

Are freelance AI developers cheaper?

Yes, often 10 to 100 times cheaper for small jobs, but most low-priced gigs are template or no-code builds. Check what is included before comparing them with an agency quote.
